Sandip Bapat, Ph.D is a Director and Principal Architect with extensive experience in applied research and development of Intelligent Embedded Systems and Software. With over 20 years of overall experience and 14 years of post-doctoral experience, Sandip has worked in small startups and large multinational R&D centers, with end-to-end experience in conceptualizing, designing, hands-on development, and commercial launch to market of new and innovative solutions. He is passionate about mentoring and leading engineering teams to solve complex, real-world problems and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Sandip's key areas of expertise include Intelligent Personal Assistant, Speech Recognition and NLP, Embedded Software Architecture, Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet Of Things (IoT), and Automotive. Currently, he serves as a Director at Samsung, where he leads a team of 45 engineers to develop Speech Recognition solutions for Samsung's Bixby Intelligent Assistant across various devices including smartphones, smartwatches, AI speakers, consumer electronics appliances, and automotive products. He has hands-on experience in designing and building scalable voice solutions used by millions of users across the world. Sandip has developed Machine-Learning (ML) based frameworks to enable emergent use cases of Voice Intelligence such as On-device ML models for personalized speech recognition (speaker adaptation), Multi-modal (audio-visual) fusion with heterogeneous neural network architectures, and Seamless and Contextual multi-device convergence experiences through voice. He also champions ideation activities to conceptualize, prototype, and commercialize new ideas and use cases for voice-enabled applications. Sandip's past experience includes serving as a Principal Engineer and System Architect for Samsung's Voice Assistant solutions, S Voice and Bixby. He played a key role in the overall system design and development aspects of these applications, including complete technical ownership of on-device software architecture, software development for Android, Tizen, and RTOS based devices, and hands-on technical leadership through design and code reviews, profiling and optimization studies, automation design for continuous integration and testing. Sandip holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Computer Technology from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI).
